Two Days & Counting - Life Goes On

A few days ago, we wouldn't have believed that we could be ready to move on so quickly after saying goodbye to our two furry kids. Then we learned that Zig found a new forever family before her second day at the AZ Humane Society drew to a close and that Mango, more than likely, was "put down" due to a medical issue. Knowing they are both in a good place gives us peace -- and frees us to remember them with love while continuing to move forward.

For the most part, we're all packed and ready to go. Each of our four suitcases weighs in at somewhere between 47 and 49 pounds. The dining room table holds two partially-filled backpacks and two other carry-ons (personal items, as the airlines call them), along with an assortment of papers, books, & personal items that need to go in them at the at the last minute.

We spent a little time with my sister and brother-in-law this afternoon before rushing off to run a few errands and hurry home to finish up the last bit of housecleaning on the list.

And plans are made for friends to drive us to the airport, where they will send us off with tears, hugs, and a promise to talk soon via Skype.

Thank goodness for the digital magic of Skype that will shrink the distance that separates us from the people we love! I'm not sure we could do it the way our immigrant ancestors did this -- knowing that goodbyes were very likely to be final.
